Anti-counterfeiting articles

Singular ID was cited as "Singapore's solution to cutting fake crime" in an article titled 'The Fake Trade: wanted for stealing childhoods', published in Harper's Bazaar, Singapore, March 2007 (pp.210-213).

'The end of the road for fake parts' was published in Global Identification, November 2006, pp.52-56. It was written by Dr Adrian Burden, Singular ID's Chief Executive Officer, and provided an overview of fake automotive parts, and some background to the deployment of Singular ID's enxure system by Sanden International (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

'Anti-counterfeiting; the big picture' was published in ID People, November 2005, pp.34-38 and featured Dr Peter Moran, Singular ID's Chief Technology Officer. The article provides a perspective on some of the issues of counterfeiting.

Technology Articles

Singular ID was featured in an article on 29th January 2008 in Chemistry World, the magazine from the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.

'Biometrics for Inanimate Objects: The Emergence of Commercially Viable 'Materiametrics' was published in Asia Pacific Biotech News, Volume 10, No. 7, pp.355-358 (2006).

A cover story feature on Singular ID's technology titled 'Fingerprinting Objects' was published February 2005 in Innovation, The Magazine of Research & Technology published by National University of Singapore and World Scientific Publishing; Volume 5, No. 2, pp.18-19.

An early article about our technology titled 'Singular ID - Magnetic fingerprint tags' appeared in Impact Vol. 4, Issue 2, p.1-2 (June 2004), whilst we were undertaking research and development at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE). Another article was also included in the A-STAR Explosion magazine for young scientists.

enxure

Our enxure system was featured on p.7 of Interface, Summer 2008, the magazine of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium.

Having completed the first delivery of our enxure system to Sanden International (Singapore) Pte Ltd, they announced the introduction of the new anti-counterfeiting measures on their air-conditioning products in a press release.

After launching enxure, our new enterprise brand security product, we were the subject of an article in the Singapore Economic Development Board's Investment News, November 2006 issue (pp. 16-17). We were also cited on the fibre2fashion web-site which reports on technology and news for the textiles and apparel industry, and in the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE)'s newsletter Perspectives. Authentication News, the international business newsletter of the authentication industry, has also covered news about the enxure launch (Vol. 12, no. 8, 2006) and the more recent scale-up of manufacturing (Vol. 13, no.1, p.3, 2007)

A Biomedical Angle

Although we are a technology company based largely on the physical sciences (such as materials, electronics and IT), we have a biomedical connection by virtue of being headquartered in the Biopolis in Singapore, and having investment from BioVenture Centre (BVC). The work and remit of BVC was detailed in a biomedical sciences article in August 2005. Another article titled 'Growing biomedical fledglings' appeared in July 2006 in Innovation, The Magazine of Research & Technology published by National University of Singapore and World Scientific Publishing; Volume 6, No. 3, p.56-57.

Our technology has real biomedical applications beyond tagging pharmaceutical packaging to prove authenticity. We continue to explore these opportunities, and indeed look for partners to help us make them a commercial reality. One example is in the fight against epidemics, such as bird flu. We were highlighted in an article on InternetNews.Com ('Nanotech Battles Bird Flu', 14th October 2005), another report in The Engineer ('Avian Alert', 31st October 2005) and a feature in Nanobiotech News (Vol. 3, No. 39, 2005).

Awards Coverage

As a result of winning ZDNet's Breakthrough Award 2006 and being in the ZDNet Asia Top Ten TechnoVisionaries in November 2006, we were featured on the ZDNet website. This included a piece about Singular ID as well as an article about Entrepreneurship in Asia.

Being listed as one of six finalists for the Global Entrepolis @ Singapore (GES) Award in October 2006, we were featured in an article in The Wall Street Journal Asia (26th October 2006, pp. 9-11). The full article is only available to WSJ subscribers, although the text is available on some news web-sites.

The winning of the Red Herring Asia 100 in August 2006 was reported in Red Herring (28th August 2006, pp.30-54). The news was also featured on various web-sites including the Nano Science and Technology Institute. A piece about several Singapore-based companies winning this award was also published in a newsletter from Exploit Technologies, the commercialisation arm of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research in Singapore.

In November 2005, we won the Nanochallenge 2005 international business plan competition held in Padua, Northern Italy. This generated a lot of coverage, including on Nanotechwire and Small Times. In June 2008, we were interviewed again to explain the impact of having won the first edition of the competition.

Back in November 2004, Singular ID's technology was a finalist in the Asian Innovation Awards 2004. This was reported in the Far Eastern Economic Review, as well as the print edition (14th October 2004, pp 37-47). A piece was also written about the event in IMRE's newsletter.

Business and Entrepreneurship Articles

In August 2007 NanoToday (Vol.2, no.4, p.6, 2007) published an Opinion piece by Dr Burden, Singular ID's CEO, titled "Start-ups or upstarts?". The article covered the difficulty that potential investors face in making good investment decisions in nanotechnology, and the challenges newly funded companies have in executing their plan to generate sustainable and credible revenues.

The Straits Time featured Singular ID and its founders in an article about "Leaping from R&D to business" in the Money section of national daily on 9th May 2007, p. H21.

ZDNet Asia reported on entrepreneurship in Asia on 29th November 2006 in an article titled "Battling entrepeneurship woes". Dr Burden was quoted extensively.

With the announcement of a new Mustard Seed investment fund in Singapore, Singular ID was approached to comment on the importance of new seed venture finance being made available to high technology start-up companies such as itself. The article was published in the Singapore Economic Development Board's Investment News, November 2006 issue (pp. 16-17).

Following a presentation at a venture capital forum held in July 2006, Singular ID was reported in the Singapore Business Times (31st July 2006). Subscribers will be able to view the article in the on-line archives. We were also featured on Channel NewsAsia (31st July 2006)

In March 2006, we were cited as an example high technology start-up company in Singapore in an article titled "Will Singapore become a hub for niche businesses?", published by SMB Insights, vol. 1, issue 103.

To coincide with the Global Entrepolis in 2005, the Straits Times ran an article on the 26th September 2005 (Money section, p. H16) about public and private nanotechnology investment in Singapore. Singular ID was featured as a company founded in Singapore by "foreign talent".

Coverage in Italy

Having our subsidiary Singular ID Italia located in Padua, Northern Italy, we have been featured in a number of publications focusing on trade and investment in Italy as well as technology. In March 2007, Dr Burden was interviewed by Invest In Italy focusing on Singular ID as a success story. In June 2007, following the participation of The World Forum for Direct Investment 2007 (picture of Dr Burden presenting at the WORLD FORUM for Direct Investment 2007 in Bologna, Italy an FDI conference organised by Red Hot Locations), Singular ID was also mentioned in an article in La Repubblica (the text of which was reproduced on Emma Bonino(Minister of International Trade, Italy)'s web-page.

Other examples include a piece in Machines Italia titled 'Pioneers from pottery to polymers' (Fall 2006, pp.14-19) on nanotechnology and a piece about Italy from Foreign Direct Investment.

License Agreement

After signing the exclusive license agreement with Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd in May 2005, we had extensive coverage on the media networks in Singapore. This included Channel NewsAsia and Frost Technical Insights.
